Contractor Development Initiative (CDI) Program

Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Deputy Mayor and Director of Economic and Housing Development, Baye Adofo Wilson and Newark CEDC Acting President and CEO Scott Blow are pleased to welcome you to an exciting new program that has been designed to help M/WBE/DBE and/or SBE Newark businesses grow their business, qualify for bonding and work on City projects!

Program Overview

Construction is booming! Participate in the expanding construction business by getting more work. Apply to join this competitive, cutting-edge program to grow your business. Those companies selected will be tutored by successful professionals to increase bonding or to establish bonding for first time and better manage businesses! Graduates of this program will greatly enhance their chances of getting selected for future work by the City of Newark and other Prime Contractors.


Participating firms will be in a better position to bid on city and private projects.

The CDI Program includes 15 mandatory sessions including 9 Classroom Sessions and 6 QuickBooks Webinars:

Financial Review

Each firm will receive a review of their internal financial statements and CPA financials (when they exist) to determine if their financial presentation would support bonding and borrowing.

One-on-one Consulting

Each participating firm will receive 7 hours of strategic one-on-one consulting sessions to help them to establish and adhere to an action plan for growth. One-on-one hours may be used for hands on assistance setting up QuickBooks for contractors.

Seating for this 6 month pilot program is extremely limited. With seats offered to qualifying firms that complete the application, participate in an interview, and are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

You must complete the application, participate in an interview and qualify to be accepted in the program.

The CDI Program will focus on building your business, helping you to qualify for bonding or increasing your bond line, making money and growing!

To expedite the completion of the application, you will need to have some information available regarding your Company Profile including: Credit Score, Gross Revenue (2012 and 2013), 2 Largest Completed Projects (Contract Dollar Amount, Year Completed and Gross Profit).
